A Lake Cottage Wedding

Rogers Lake Wedding Old Lyme Connecticut 2

I got a call from California this winter. The woman on the other end of the phone asked if I was located in Old Lyme, CT and was I free 4th of July weekend. Well as most of you know, I grew up in Old Lyme and every July I usually spend a week at my parents when my sisters and their families come in to town. Of course I was available! The more I talked/emailed with Jenny and Jeff, the more I loved this wedding. It was going to be small – 40 to 50 people – and at the lake cottage Jeff spent all his summers growing up. I have a soft spot in my heart for the upper part of Rogers Lake. It’s where I first learned to row many moons ago and is still my favorite

Cherry Blossoms Festival – Better Late Than Never…

cherry blossoms 1

Year after year, it never failed. We would be sitting in our kitchen, stilled bundled in winter clothing and across the tv screen would come images of beautiful, sunny weather – flowers and trees in full bloom – spring shouting out its arrival. We’d look at each in wonder. Where the heck is that and how can we get there!?! That, my friends, was the yearly DC Cherry Blossom news headliner. Spring was no where to be found in Connecticut, in fact, it would be weeks and weeks until we’d get catch even a glimmer of it! I always promised myself, one day, one day I’m going to actually see those dang cherry blossoms! A flurry of texts between friends and a date was set and then reset (because you know how it is when you try to get more

We Don’t Do THAT in Connecticut!! (A CT Girl’s Love for Kent Island)

old lyme to kent island

Take a look at the image up above. Old Lyme, CT is on the left and Kent Island, MD is on the right. Now as you can see, there are many, many miles between the two. Still, you wouldn’t think they would be that different – both small communities surrounded by water, boating and an influx of crazy outsiders known as summer people between the months of June and August. But oooh, you would be so wrong! Apparently, the most oft heard phrase coming out of my mouth for the last 6 months or so is “We don’t do THAT in Connecticut!!” You would think I moved to another country or planet and not just down the eastern seaboard. A few months ago I asked, what I thought, a very basic question “When does hunting season start?” The reply I

They’re Back – Christmas 2010 with the M Family!!

2010 Custom Christmas Card inside

It’s that time of year again, which means, the M family is back for their annual Christmas Card!  Those of you who have been fans of Lil Blu Dragonfly might recognize them from last year’s card and the all time favorite 2008 card.  The boys and I are old hands at this now. We work really well together and the shoot goes amazingly fast! (I think they’re learning the sooner I get what I want the sooner they can get back to whatever they were doing before I showed up!) I look forward to this project every year. It challenges me in so many ways – how to show the boys as they are this year, how to be visually interesting and different from the past year(s) and finally the custom design. I love designing layouts (one of the reasons

thankful

thankful

About 3 – maybe 4 – years ago, I started a tradition of sending thanks to all the people in my life who touched, supported and loved me. There was a lot of change going on in my life with many, many highs and lows. During that time, I walked and walked and walked to clear my head. On one of these walks I realized how thankful I was for all the people who loved me and in the next instant it struck me that I couldn’t remember telling any of them how I felt.  I went home and wrote an open letter to share my feelings.  Why an open letter? Because, not only did I want to thank those that loved me but I also wanted others to know how wonderful each of these people were/are. I never quite
